Eligibility

  • The competition is open to entries for any KC registered Greenland Dog owned by a current, paid up member of the GDCGB
  • A working season runs from 1st October to 30th April for rallies, treks & weightpull competitions. Backpacking submissions can be extended to include titles awarded between 1st September – 31st May for the relevant years.
  • All events must take place in the UK.
  • In the event of a tie break, the team with the highest number of rally positions will take precedence. If the two highest places are from the same kennel, the award is to be shared.
  • The trophies are to be awarded to Best Working Greenland Dog and Runner Up Best Working Greenland Dog on an annual basis. A sash for Top Working Greenland Dog will be presented at the following AGM for the winner to keep.
  • Committee decision is final.

Rally Points

  • The dog for which points are being claimed must be entered on the relevant entry form. Substitute dogs will only be awarded points if the event organiser has accepted the substitution.
  • Where an event take place over 2 or more stages the dog must compete on all days to be awarded full points. The placement against which points are awarded is that from the full event.
    Example: If a dog places 2nd on Day 1, 1st on Day 2 and is awarded 2nd overall the points claimed will be for 2nd place.
  • Where a dog attends only 1 day of a 2 day event, the points are taken from their placement on that day but are equal to only half that of the full event position.
    Example: A dog competes only on Day 2 of a rally. The dog places 3rd on the day, but 6th overall behind the 5 teams who competed over both days. The dog will claim 8 points IE half of what would have been awarded for a 3rd in the overall event.
  • Where a dog attends more than 1 stage but not the full event (EG attending 2 stages of a 3 stage event) the points are taken from their highest ranking position over those stages, at the same half rate described in the 1 of 2 day scenario.
  • A dog can accrue points from different classes during the season
  • A dog does not need to be driven by the same musher to accrue points during the season.
  • A dog may run in a team with any of the Kennel Club Registered sled dog breeds.
  • If a dog competes in more than one class at a rally it may only claim points from one class. The highest position will take precedence.
  • A disqualified team cannot claim points.

Weightpull Points

  • Points can only be claimed from organised, competitive events & the dog for which points are being claimed must be entered on the relevant entry form.
  • A dog may accrue points from different weight classes during the season
  • The dog’s position is calculated against all competing breeds in their class
  • If a dog places within the Top 20 of their class, they are eligible for 5points.
  • If a dog places within the Top 5 of their class, they are eligible for 10 points
  • A maximum of 4 weightpull events can be submitted for inclusion in the competition. The maximum number of points a dog can claim through weightpulling, therefore, would be 40 from 4x Top 5 positions.

Trek Points

  • Points can be claimed from treks held as an organised event or from those undertaken independently
  • Evidence of the mileage covered must be made available (EG through GPS mapping, independent witness verification or video / photographic evidence).
  • A dog may run in a team with any of the Kennel Club Registered sled dog breeds.
  • A dog does not need to be driven by the same musher to accrue points during the season.
  • The trek must be undertaken on a rig / cart, sled or scooter; any other type of vehicle that allows assisted propulsion (for example through an engine or pedaling) does not qualify for these points
  • A trek of 10+ miles will earn a dog 10 points.
  • A trek of 20+ miles will earn a dog 20 points
  • A maximum of 4 trekking excursions can be submitted for inclusion in the competition. The maximum number of points a dog can claim through trekking, therefore, would be 80 from 4x 20+ mile treks.

Backpacking Points

  • Points can be claimed for backpack titles earned through a recognised awarding body (EG the Alaskan Malamute Working Association scheme) within the UK
  • The dog must be carrying a minimum of 20% of their bodyweight at the start of the backpack to count towards points claimed – this weight may only decrease through natural consumption EG food or water being utilised during the excursion.
  • Evidence of the dog’s weight, the weight of the backpack and mileage covered must be made available (EG through GPS mapping, independent witness verification or video / photographic verification).
  • A backpacking title requiring a minimum of 40+ miles in total will earn a dog 5 points.
  • A backpack title requiring a minimum of 80+ miles in total will earn a dog 10 points
  • A maximum of 3 backpacking titles can be submitted for inclusion in the competition. The maximum number of points a dog can claim through backpacking, therefore, would be 30 from 3x titles requiring more than 80+ miles to complete.

Some examples of points collation:

  • Dog 1: Competes at 8 rallies, attending the full event and placing 1st every time.
  • Dog 2: competes at 5 rallies – coming 2nd each time, but only attend 1 day at one event –  6 weightpulls  (earning 4 places in the Top 20 and 2 in the Top 5) & undertakes two 10+ mile treks.
  • Dog 3: No rallies, weightpulls or treks but is awarded 2 backpacking titles, 1 requiring 40 miles (earned over 4x 10 mile backpacks) and the other requiring 80 miles (4x 20+ mile backpacks).

Placement in the awards would be as follows:

1st = Dog 1 (160 points)

2nd = Dog 2 (131 points)

3rd = Dog 3 (15 points)

Dog 1 earns 8 x 20 points for their rally awards. No points from any other disciplines. This gives the total of 160.
Dog 2 earns 81 points for the rally results (72 from the 4x full event 2nd places & 9 points for the 1 day attendance); 20 points for the 2 treks; 30 points for the weightpull (20 points from 2x Top 5 results and 10 points from 2x Top 20 results). No points from backpacking. This gives the total of 131 points.
Dog 3 earns 5 points from the first title completed and 10 points from the second. No points from any other disciplines. This gives the total of 15 points.

**GOOD LUCK TO ALL MEMBERS**
